Beaufort Castle – Luxembourg

The castle of Beaufort was built in the 12th century.
At the beginning of the 20th Century the medieval building
which had in the meantime fallen into decay,
was renovated and made open to the public.
The castle is situated in an area of Luxembourg often referred to as a “Little Switzerland”.

  3. I suppose it's because I grew up adoring fairy tales but your photos of castles always start my day off in a happy, dreamy way. Thank you.

  4. That's a beautiful castle and grounds. I was interested in the name, Beaufort, because there is a Beaufort, North Carolina, U.S. which is on the coast of my state and is a beautiful place. I'll have to tell family who has a house in Beaufort, NC that there is a castle in Luxembourg with the same name. There is also a Beaufort, South Carolina now that I think of it, which is on the SC coast. I wonder if there is any relation between the naming of these U.S. towns and the castle of Beaufort. Perhaps some inhabitants came here from Luxembourg.

  5. Beautiful bits of history. What an undertaking the preservation must have been. So glad it was done, though. I, too, think the lake is beautiful.

  6. The buildings look very romantic as partial ruins but I'm glad they are being renovated so they don't completely fall apart.

  7. Now this is what a castle is supposed to look like – or at least that's what I've come to expect a castle to look like from the books I've read and the movies I've seen.

The darn thing's older than I am, though!

By the way, Lois Anne and I are celebrating 53 years of marriage today. We're going to The Villages for dinner and ice cream. How exciting is that? 🙂

What took you from Brazil to Luxembourg? My husband and I spent 4 weeks there in 2007. We both love it, the people, the sights, the capirhinias… 😀 I would love to live there.
