ABC Wednesday – Beaune, France

ABC Wednesday : B for Beaune
More participants here.

In a misty morning we discovered Beaune.

Beaune is a walled city: about half of the battlements,
ramparts, and the moat, remain in good condition.

Beaune is one of the key wine centers in France,
the capital of Burgundy wines.

It is an ancient and historic town on the plain,
by the hills of the Cote d’Or.

There are features from pre-Roman and Roman times,
from the Antiquity, medieval, renaissance and modern times.
In Beaune take your time…
time to do whatever your heart requires.

  1. Yes, take your time to enjoy all that beauty and history and wine – of course! So interesting to see the old with the new. I love your first shot. PS: I'm still trying to decide how the sheep in your new header can stand let alone walk. So much fleece, such thin looking legs. 🙂

  2. I can see that you followed the same roads I took last year (again.. I love the region): Fontenay, Dijon, Beaune… I hope you went inside the Hospices, if not you will have to go back! 🙂

  3. Wonderful photos and story… I went to Beaune by train from Paris many years ago and it was my first time to taste wine out of the little silver sippers… In the US (California)we use a regular wine glass. I still have a sipper and it holds my paper clips in my office – hah!

I love the misty scene in Beaune and my favorite photo is, of course, the carousel in red and white. It is adorable and the square looks like a scene from a storybook.

    Did you like the roofs?

  16. It is so interesting to see Beaune in the winter. The hospital's multi-color roof is a big feature, but here it just looks gray. I might not have recognized it if you didn't tell us it is Beaune.

  19. This is all new to me. But your photos are glorious of this obviously enchanting city! It would appear one could spend weeks there and not see it all. I love the misty shot, the stone walls, the old buildings mixed with newer buildings, those narrow streets…it's all quite charming.

Did you stay at the hotel Dieu?

Merci for this fine travel post!
