Our Lady of Scherpenheuvel – Belgium

It’s a Roman Catholic parish church and minor basilica in Scherpenheuvel-Zichem, Belgium.
The church was consecrated in 1627 and raised to the status of a minor basilica in 1922.
It is reputedly the most frequently visited shrine of pilgrimage in Belgium.

  2. I don't want to be disrespectful, but I don't know what to call the tree looking thing in the interior photo. That is amazing. I love your angels.
A time back you posted a picture of what I know as the Nancy Zoo. Can you give me the link to that post?
    Thank you, Dear Ones.

  3. I love the blue dome with stars! I wonder if there are lights at night – that should look absolutely wonderful. I also like the tree over the altar – most unusual.

  4. I like the angle in the last shot. It looks like it is giving the tower in Pisa some competition!

  6. It's a bit frustrating when you visit something, some place, and there is restoration work ongoing, but on the other hand, it's so nice that beautiful works are well taken care of, like here, obviously!

  7. Tres magnifique! And as usual, great photos. I notice that the church is leaning a bit…maybe they should prop it up before the next group of pilgrims arrive? 😉

I challenge you to say “Our Lady of Scherpenhovel-Lichen” three times very fast!

  8. This church/basilica has such fascinating architecture. The stars are suspended above the dome by thin stems, and the back of the building is either incomplete or being restored.
