Het Steen – Antwerp, Belgium

Het Steen is a medieval fortress in the old city centre of Antwerp.
At the entrance bridge to the castle there is a statue of a giant
and two humans. It depicts the giant Lange Wapper
who used to terrorize the inhabitants of the city in medieval times.

  1. Hat Steen? Verrrrry interesting. I've heard of these giants but have never seen one. Well, maybe one or two, but not more than that. Do you suppose the people of this town grabbed their hat and ran into the fortress when the giant appeared? 🙂

I really like your perspective in that second shot.

Hope you're having a wonderful Sunday!

  2. Fascinating and beautiful castle and your captures are superb as always! I would so love to visit and tour here. Thanks as always for sharing the beauty and the history! Hope you have a great week and give Luna a pat for Sam Schnauzer and me!!

  3. Strange that Europe had so many giants and dragons roaming around. I wonder where they all came from, and where they all went?

  4. The statue of the giant is awesome! I also like the castle – really interesting and beautiful place!

  5. There are so many things to highlight in my comments. The castle, the giant, the bas relief and crest on the castle . . . you have shown us so much beauty today!

  6. The relief over the windows is lovely and looks very interesting. I think I'll go search to read more about that giant too.
